The rehearsals became increasingly longer as the cast came closer and closer to putting the show together. Towards the end of the development process, the cast spent eight to ten hour nights in rehearsals, some of which went until 2:00am. Luckily, being in a health center, the cast and crew knew very well what the lack of nutrience could do to one's sanity, so no one was ever really at a loss when it came to food...a tradition that continues to this day!
After the rough script was done, a set was made, blocking was staged, and lines were memorized, the cast and crew were ready to debut, "It Can Happen To You" in a workshop environment to the Production Assistants and various members of the health-related and theatre communities of Honolulu. The workshops were used as test-runs before the show's first live performance for Farrington High School's Health Academy. It was during these workshops that the cast and crew recieved feedback and fielded questions and concerns. Scenes were shortened and tweaked, and characters like Aunty's Assistant Mahulani, were changed. After the workshops and Health Academy performance, the cast and crew geared up for it's first pubic performance at Farrington's Auditorium.
After the long months of research, development, and rehearsals, it seemed that the hard work of everyone involved finally paid off. Karen, Andrea, the cast, and crew all recieved positive feedback from people in the health and theatre communities. People said that it was informative, entertaining, and most importantly, related well to high school students.
